This website is designed to share some of my experiences as a spinal cord injured person.. Think of it as a useful resource that spinal injured person and their families can utilize to gain more information that would empower them to live a useful life.
My name is Kemal Zakaria and I live in Ethiopia. I was actively working as a consultant in health and environment before my accident. I am a divorcee and have three children.
Whilst working in the field I struck my head against a wall and developed an immediate quadriparesis for which I was referred for treatment. Thus I attended the Saudi German Hospital and subsequently operated.
Now I am quadriplegic at C3 and incomplete as a direct result of inappropriate surgical intervention by the doctors.
I was discharged from the hospital after three years without any significant improvement.
Ever since i have endured and survived experiences that have helped me to adjust, adapt and reconcile to life with spinal cord injury.Factors that helped in the process are many and include family and friend support, enhancing my knowledge through reading books and other sources.
Presently i am back in Ethiopia where facilities for rehabilitation as well as physiotherapists are very limited. Nevertheless i am still recovering from my injury because of my personal efforts and regular exercises.I can stand and take steps on my own. I have good strength and endurance. I feel that i will be able to walk again.
Indeed the most useful resource that i have found is the internet. The web is one of the most valuable resource to those with spinal cord injury. Literally everything you need to know can be found on the web.I have tried to suggest a few relevant sites too.Visit the links located on the left hand side of this page. You can browse relevant sites on the NavBar at the bottom too. You can also add yourselves other sites that you consider to be useful and relevant using the to do things bar on the left hand side of this page.

2 - Mobility and strength
